Ninjas prefer night shifts not only because they have an easier time staying out of their victim’s sight, but also because they can sneak out of work to sportfish in the open sea without getting caught by their shuriken-wielding supervisors. For $20, today’s Perk invites you to 5 hours of Twilight sportfishing in the cover of darkness, or sunlit half-day trips on weekdays and weekends (a $40 value!). Newport Landing’s general
Twilight trips last from 7pm to midnight daily in the months of May through September, while the ½ day trips are offered year-round.
You can bring your own fishing rods and equipment on board, but coolers, ice chests, and outside alcohol are prohibited. Otherwise, they can be rented at the rates shown at the bottom of
this page. In addition, a fishing license is required for all fishermen ages 16 and older, and is available for 1 day ($15.10) or 1 year ($45.25) at Newport Landing.
No boating trip is complete without good food, and good food is what Newport Landing’s four proud
fishing boats offer. Their full service snack bars and kitchens carry an ABC license so you can enjoy a refreshing glass of beer in between catches. If you manage to reel in a fish, they can even clean and fillet it for you for a nominal fee. This family friendly adventure is fun for everyone including children, as long as they’re allowed to stay past their bedtime.
It is recommended to show up an hour ahead of departure for parking and check in. The parking structure is the ideal place to park for day trips. Since it closes at 10pm, you can park at metered spots or at the Balboa Pier Parking lot for Twilight trips.
