$37.50 for One 3-hour Cooking Class at Epicurean School of Culinary Arts (Originally $75)

Have you ever found yourself eating the same things day after day? Food should never have to be dull, and the chefs at Epicurean School of Culinary Arts can teach you how to spice up your meals (figuratively speaking). For $37.50, you can take any 3-hour cooking workshops at the Anaheim location, originally $75.

Summer is the perfect season to bring out the freshly picked berries, peaches, and other juicy fruit for culinary enjoyment. The workshop on Sunday, July 11, titled "Summer in the City," will teach you how to make your own sherbets, shortcakes, teacakes, and martinis. Best of all, you can taste your works of art when they’re complete. Week after week, there are plenty of diversely themed classes you can choose from, including sushi, ladies’ night out, knife cutting techniques, cupcakes, salad, sauces, and much more. Take a look at the Epicurean School policies for ways to prepare for the workshops.

Reviews

"Finally, a culinary school in Anaheim! The facility is professional, instructors are patient (with us amateurs) and the recipes and techniques taught are invaluable... Additionally, the school has earned a well-respected reputation in the Anaheim community by giving to charitable causes and helping others. Overall, the Epicurean School is a great place to have fun with food and I’m thankful to have the school right here in Orange County."

"After my wife took the Professional Chef Training Program she was so inspired she designed the recipes for our restaurant, Urth Caffe."

Coming in just under the wire, Epicurean provided the WORST customer service experience of the first decade of the new millennium. I've been trying to attend a class since September. Twice, the class had to be rescheduled. That, by itself, was annoying but could have been excusable if the person who called me was the least bit apologetic about it. Whatever challenges they have regarding scheduling should NOT be made the consumer's problem. This most recent iteration of the rescheduling was via voicemail. I was asked if I could attend a class on December 15. I returned the call and had to leave a voicemail (as another reviewer pointed out, no one ever answers the phone). I said I could attend and would appreciate a call back to confirm the time and the fact that I would be registered in the class. Of course, no call ever came. The day before the class, I again left messages (and sent an email!) asking to confirm the class was still on as it had been rescheduled before and I didn't want to give up my day for something that wasn't happening. No response came so I headed over this morning and arrived early. The school was locked up tight but I figured that I was early so I'd wait. FINALLY, at the scheduled time, a young man shows up and tells me that he's the dishwasher for the school and that the class has been cancelled. He apologizes (the first apology I've ever received from Epicurean). I couldn't take my ire out on him as he's the only person connected to them that's been responsible enough to actually show up. He takes my name and contact information so that somebody might actually do something to make up for this debacle. Nothing has happened as yet. I'm not optimistic about the chances of them doing anything close to making this right. I received this class as a gift through the Orange County Register's Daily Deal. I would think the only reason a business would partner with the Register's Daily Deal program is to introduce their business to new customers. I would think that a business would want such an introduction to go as well as possible in order to create a repeat customer. Rather, they introduced themselves as a business to be avoided at all costs. Do yourself a favor and stay away from Epicurean. They are the very model of what a business should NOT do.
